The article of the research group of Associate Professor Masahiko Hashimoto (Faculty of Science and Engineering, Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science) et al. was featured on the front cover of Electrophoresis, published on January 16, 2017.

The article is about the droplet digital PCR (polymerase chain reaction) that has been rapidly developing in recent years as a novel nucleic acid analysis technique. The group discovered that equal-sized water-in-oil droplets can be self-generated inside a PDMS by simply adhering microfluidic chips made of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) on a glass plate only with the absorption of PDMS, degassing for a certain period of time, and dropping the oil phase and water phase into microchannel inlet. As a result, droplet digital PCR analysis can be conducted more easily, and at a lower cost, than before.
