Chikako Hirazumi and Kotoha Tomimori of the Graduate School of Science and Engineering Receive Outstanding Poster Award at 66th Symposium on Macromolecules

From September 20 to 22, 2017, the 66th Symposium on Macromolecules was held at Ehime University, where Chikako Hirazumi and Kotoha Tomimori (Major of Applied Science, Graduate School of Science and Engineering) received the Outstanding Poster Award. They were one of the 53 winners carefully selected from among nearly 900 submissions.

Hirazumi newly synthesized an amino acid-derived, multi-stimuli-responsive block copolymer using the living radical polymerization technique, and elucidated its properties in water. In addition, she examined polyion complex-mediated compounding with natural polysaccharide.
Tomimori, using a special kind of amino acid vinyl polymer, succeeded in preparing a unique shape-memory hydrogel that can change its shape and return back to its original shape with temperature variation, clarifying its function expression mechanism.

These research projects were carried out with the support of the MEXT-supported Program for the Strategic Research Foundation at Private Universities, ‘Formation of a development base of molecular chemistry technologies for freely manipulating cells’ (2015-2019, representative: Professor Masahito Kodera).
