Assistant Professor Motohiro Yuasa (Faculty of Science and Engineering) Receives Incentive Award at Japan Institute of Metals and Materials Fall Meeting

Updated Nov. 15, 2017
From September 6 to 8, 2017, the Japan Institute of Metals and Materials Annual Fall Meeting 2017 (161st) was held at Hokkaido University, where Assistant Professor Motohiro Yuasa of the Faculty of Science and Engineering received the Incentive Award (in the category of mechanical properties).

This award is given to outstanding young researchers who are achieving excellent results and have a real opportunity to become the next generation of researchers in the metals and materials and related fields.
Yuasa has been conducting analysis on the atomic and electronic level regarding the destruction and deformation of metal materials using a computational science method. He has clarified the intergranular fracture mechanism of steel materials by using segregation elements, and also has proposed an alloy design guidelines for the improvement of machining performance of magnesium alloy. In addition, Yuasa is currently engaged in developing a method to improve the mechanical properties of metal materials by applying computational science. These achievements, as well as the expectation for future development, were highly commended for the award.
