Graduate School of Science and Engineering Science of Environment and Mathematical Modeling

Course Outline

Master's Program

Aims of Academic Activities

There is no question that environmental problems will be the most important issue facing mankind in the future. If we imagine that the various fields of engineering, mainly involving manufacturing, are the warp, it is clear that the importance of environmental science as a weft that connects them is continuing to increase. Also, fulfilling a role as another weft for all of science and technology is mathematical science, which forms the foundation of our highly information-based society. The master's program of this course implements academic activities with the aim of developing core talented individuals who correctly understand the academic development of environmental science and mathematical science and, equipped with a fundamental grounding as researchers, have the ability to apply leading academic results to the execution of various challenges in industrial and educational circles.

In response to the need for development of advanced engineers in fields such as Earth observation, environment preservation, disaster prevention science, new energy, and environmental engineering, the environmental science course has established as one of its main objectives the development of advanced professionals who will incorporate environmental science from a scientific perspective in business and industrial activities. Another important objective is the development of instructors trained in environmental science, who are in short supply in classrooms. As well as aiming to develop advanced professionals with advanced knowledge of mathematical science in various industrial circles, the mathematical science course also establishes as an important objective the development of educators who are able to act on their own initiative to execute elementary and secondary mathematics education from an advanced standpoint. Furthermore, an important theme of this course, which aims to unite both environmental and mathematical sciences, is the development of advanced professionals and educators who are strong in interdisciplinary fields regardless of the course with which they are affiliated.

Specific Objectives for Development of Talented Individuals

This program aims to cultivate talented individuals who can display the following abilities

  1. The ability to understand and analyze problems scientifically.
  2. The ability to consider problems concerning the environment from a global perspective.
  3. The ability to consider problems concerning the environment from a life science perspective.
  4. The ability to analyze problems in science and engineering as exact sciences from a mathematical science perspective.
  5. The ability to accurately extract problems to be resolved from among many different real-life problems.
  6. The ability to accurately construct means and methods for solving extracted problems.
  7. The communication skills required to correctly communicate one's thoughts with an international outlook.

Doctoral Program

Aims of Academic Activities

The doctoral program of this course implements academic activities with the aim of making students correctly understand the academic development of environmental science and mathematical science and developing in them the ability to apply leading academic results to the execution of various challenges in industrial and educational circles. It also aims to develop creative researchers who can contribute to cutting-edge research.

The environmental science course aims to cultivate not only university-affiliated researchers but also researchers who are able to fulfill leadership roles in research projects that are promoted on a global level as national policy, etc. The mathematical science course aims to cultivate researchers who can produce first-class results in large quantities on their own initiative in the face of intensifying competition in research and development in Europe and America. Within the current of globalization, one of the objectives of the doctoral program of this course is to cultivate advanced professionals who can deal correctly and independently with cases that are insurmountable with master's level knowledge, which frequently arise in industrial circles, as well as educators with high levels of learning who can foster new talent.

Specific Objectives for Development of Talented Individuals

With the following guidelines, this program aims to develop creative and talented individuals capable of contributing to cutting-edge research in various fields of environmental and mathematical science:

  1. Development of deep learning in major fields of study and creativity that can contribute to cutting-edge research.
  2. Development of problem-solving ability through the process of establishing and solving one's own research tasks.
  3. Development of the ability to communicate research results through presentations and discussions.
  4. Development of talented individuals with energy and an international outlook.
