Master's Program
Aims of Academic Activities
The master’s program aims to provide knowledge and skills that enables students to deal with the advanced and wide-ranging topics of information processing and communication technology necessary for the development of information systems that form the social infrastructure of the 21st century. Information systems in the future should be environment-friendly and possess intelligent processing capabilities.
The master’s program aims to provide knowledge and skills that are balanced in the two fields of “information science,” which involves computer science and information processing and communication technology, and “knowledge science,” which involves the simulation of the intelligent activities of human beings and the application of them into engineering. Lecture classes in these two fields are provided and they are organized to allow students to acquire wide-ranging knowledge centered on theoretical aspects. Meanwhile, on the research side, students are required not only to submit a master’s thesis based on laboratory works, but also to have as much experience as possible in making presentations and participating in discussions at academic society conferences, etc. In this way, we endeavor to foster the fundamental abilities required to become world-leading engineers and researchers.
Specific Objectives for Development of Talented Individuals
The master’s program aims to develop talented individuals who can demonstrate the following abilities:
- The ability to take the initiative in resolving highly-specialized technical problems in each area/field of information system development;
- Cultivating information technology engineers who possess balanced communication skills as members of society and can take the lead in planning new information systems in association with others;
- Cultivating information technology engineers who, without any restriction of technical fields covered by existing information technology, can understand, analyze, and have an awareness of problems related to the information technology that the next generation society will face and can take the leadership in resolving these problems;
- Cultivating information technology engineers with the fundamental abilities required to become world-leading engineers and researchers.
Doctoral Program
Aims of Academic Activities
Like the master’s program, the doctoral program aims for students to acquire the advanced and wide-ranging knowledge of information processing and communication technology necessary for the development of information systems in the 21st century. The doctoral program goes a step beyond master’s program by aiming to develop an advanced research capability sufficient to pursue the careers as researchers.
Specifically, the doctoral program makes it possible for students to acquire not only deep knowledge and creativity in specific fields through doctoral dissertation research as well as presentations and discussions at academic society conference, but also wide-ranging insight and abilities through seminar classes designed to cultivate the ability to understand the research topics in other fields. Furthermore, in response to the age of globalization, the program gives guidance on proactively providing opportunities to present at international academic conferences in order to develop the ability to present and understand various research results in foreign languages.
Specific Objectives for Development of Talented Individuals
The doctoral program aims to develop talented individuals who can demonstrate the following abilities:
- Advanced research capabilities in information processing and communication technology, with the aim of preparing a doctoral dissertation and making presentations at international academic conferences;
- The ability to take a central role and provide leadership in resolving highly-specialized technical problems in each area/field of information system development;
- The ability to develop and execute research activities on his/her initiative while paying wide attention to related fields rather than confining himself/herself to his/her specialized field;
- Sufficient foreign language ability to be able to conduct surveys and investigations for his/her research fields and to share research results with society;
- Fundamental ability in formulating and executing research programs as required for driving research and development in the future as the leader of a research and development group.
